Elevating veterinary eye care: TONOVET Plus and TONOVET Pro redefine accuracy in IOP measurement

6.5.2025

For over two decades, iCare’s rebound tonometers have been trusted by veterinary professionals around the world. With the introduction of the TONOVET Plus and the new TONOVET Pro, iCare continues to set the standard for IOP measurement in animal care.

Proven accuracy, backed by research

The study, led by Kangmoon Seo and colleagues, involved 16 enucleated canine eyes with IOPs ranging from 5 to 80 mmHg. Researchers compared the original TONOVET, the recalibrated TONOVET Plus (rTVP), and the new TONOVET Pro (TVPR) against the manometer.

The findings were compelling. Both TONOVET Plus and TONOVET Pro demonstrated near-perfect agreement with the manometer, each achieving a Concordance Correlation Coefficient (CCC) of 0.9974, indicating minimal deviation from the reference standard. By contrast, the original TONOVET showed a lower CCC of 0.9874, with a slightly higher systematic bias.

These results highlight the enhanced precision and reliability of the newer models, particularly in detecting elevated IOP levels — an essential factor in diagnosing and monitoring glaucoma.

Designed for clinical excellence

As with all iCare tonometers, TONOVET Plus and Pro operate on a rebound measuring principle, using a lightweight, single-use probe that briefly contacts the cornea. This gentle, applanation-free method eliminates the need for topical anesthesia and avoids triggering a corneal reflex in most animals. The hygienic, pain-free technique is ideal for routine exams as well as post-surgical evaluations.

The future of veterinary tonometry

With strong clinical validation, TONOVET Plus and Pro represent the future of IOP measurement in veterinary care. Whether you’re looking to enhance glaucoma management or simply want a more efficient, accurate tonometry tool, these new-generation devices are an invaluable addition to any animal healthcare setting.
